Stories of Watsons Bay and Vaucluse
Recollections of long-time local residents
by the Watsons Bay-Vaucluse Social History Group
The recollections, recorded over many years, of some 40 long-time residents of Watsons Bay and Vaucluse, never before recorded, accompanied by photographs and art works, in a publication to be enjoyed by the wider community. Community memories tell of life in the area in the 1900s, local activities, flora and fauna, architecture and real estate, as well as the impact of World War II.
Biographies of well-known local personalities and of the participants in this study are also included. Formal historical content has been added to provide a complete picture, with details of local landmarks, churches, schools and businesses in the area, and the story of the Greycliffe ferry disaster in 1927 which impacted so many local families.
The publication of this book was supported by financial grants through the Royal Australian Historical Society and Woollahra Municipal Council.
The book was launched in October 2020 by the Lord Mayor of Woollahra.
