Of Russian-Jewish ancestry, Vera was born in Lithuania, fleeing with her mother before the Second World War to England, where she was adopted by the Roney family. She was educated in England, graduating from the University of London in Physics. She then worked in medical radiology in England with further research in the USA, at Yale and Sandford Universities. She travelled extensively, immigrating to Australia where she married and raised her family. Her story is written for her family.
