A Family History
by Jenny Rudd O'Neill
James Condon came as a convict who had protested against the cruel and inhuman treatment by the British. He was forbidden to own land in his native country. In the following years he bought farming land of his own in the beautiful area of Jamberoo, on the South Coast of NSW. He married Mary Murphy, a girl who came on a ship full of poor Irish girls supported by charity. Together they started the Condon line. Over generations Condon descendants have included convicts, felons, publicans, butchers, educators, nurses, doctors, anti-prohibition activists, dairy farmers, nuns, lawyers, a University Chancellor, and a Head of State.
