Family Stories and Memories
by Michael Leslie Bartok
The Bartok Family Story provides a treasure trove of personal and family reminiscences, recording the author’s Jewish ancestry in Hungary, his parents’ decision in 1939 to escape the approaching threat of Nazi occupation in Hungary and their journey to Australia. Other members of their family went to Canada and U.S.A. but two Bartok families decided to make Australia their home. Their stories are recounted here.
After a successful business career, his father Peter spent several challenging years establishing a charity, the Richmond Fellowship of NSW, committed to helping those with mental illness to live more fulfilling lives. Now called Flourish Australia, it can rightly boast about its remarkable achievements and the dedication of its highly trained staff.
The book also includes the author’s memories and reminiscences of family life in Sydney and growing up between two cultures, and some of his father’s writings.
