MAJOR TRANSITIONS

A Memoir

by Major Rod Halliday (Rtd)

MAJOR TRANSITIONS

This is the story of how one moment in time changes the course of a young man’s life, a young man living in poverty with an uncaring father and a loving mother with no influence over her husband. After yet another row with his father, the distraught boy sits sobbing in the outside dunny, praying for a better life. The prayer was answered in a new-found determination to rise above what his father called his destiny, the same unrelenting poverty in which he had been raised.

As soon as he was eighteen, he enlisted in the Australian Regular Army, became a model soldier and was commissioned at the age of twenty-seven, rising to the rank of Major. His success in the Army emboldened him into the business world where he forged a very successful business career as a ‘company doctor’, a Turnaround Manager.

This is a story of transitions. A story of courage, determination and a young man’s longing for a better life.
